The project does not include any research. Its aim is mainly to collect the existing knowledge into a complete system of how to secure the quality of composts and digestate. Its main parts are :
Positive list of feed-stocks,
Formulation of the admissible limit values for pollutants in the feedstocks in relation to the degradation of the organic matter during composting or anaerobic digestion
Admission control
Measures during production of compost and digestate (in particular regarding hygiene)
How to secure tracability
· Admission criteria for production plants especially for construction and formation

This system will be used as a minimal branch requirement for the production of composts and digestate. It will serve as an aid for the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture towards establishing legal regulations in the sector of food and environmental safety.

Das BLW will auf Grund dieser Arbeit eine Vernehmlassung in der Branche durchführen und nachher ein Qualitätssicherungssystem installieren. Damit soll dann auch die Kontrolle institutionalisiert werden.

On the basis of the work, the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture, will conduct a branch survey on how to implement a quality management system. The needed internal and external controls will also be defined within it.
