Abstract
(Englisch)
The goal of the proposal is the development of an advanced radioactive source imaging technique, to be used in medical applications and intended to provide a radiation pattern. A real-time imaging of extended radioactive sources would boost the progress in coronary artery disease radiotherapy and in the treatments with light ion beams of tumours. To overcome the limitations of current devices, it is proposed the development of an imaging technique based on direct charged particle detection in semiconductor devices subdivided in cells (hence the name of 'pixel detectors'). The main innovation of the proposed system is defined by the integration of the sensor and the front-end electronics in a monolithic device, using leading edge microelectronics technologies, and by the speed of the readout system.
