DOMINO is a European Commission funded project under the Information Society Technologies Programme (http://www.cordis.lu/ist). Within the context of research on socio-economic impacts of the Information Society, DOMINO addresses the challenges of management of dynamic organizational forms. Hence, it focuses on inter-firm relationships, relational resources, network structures and processes, etc. DOMINO project tackles with the management of the dynamic inter-firm arrangements in new organisational forms. Several market-related contingencies drive the formation of networks prompting enterprises to think about cooperating and setting up network relationships with other companies. Different motives for partnering and network formation lead to the emergence of several different types of networks. In the context of DOMINO research, networks will be examined in terms of strategy, structure, processes and people. To this end, the DOMINO research consortium will investigate the following research topics: · Power and dependencies in networks · Social implications of network identity · Partner Relationship Management (PRM) · Information Infrastructure Management · Knowledge Transfer in networks · Collaboration, Coordination Management · Collaborative Process Improvement · Network Configuration Management
The primary objective of the project is to maximize the current understanding in this field and to set the basis of common reference. Thus, the project intends to develop an organizational and business taxonomy, presenting the types and the characteristics of dynamic organizational forms.Starting from this point, the main research questions of DOMINO project are the 'what?' in terms of what are the main management challenges and the 'how?', which is concerned with the identification of suitable management practices to come up with a framework of management guidelines in the end of the project. A key goal of the project is to enhance the understanding in the field of network organizations and thus to set the basis for common references. DOMINO is building on the existing body of knowledge and aiming at extending it into the inter-organizational realm. To this end, the project will pursue the following objectives: · Specify the organizational and business attributes of dynamic organizational forms (like for example business networks) · Develop an organizational and business taxonomy, presenting types and characteristics of dynamic organizations · Analyse and explain the management practices within several types of dynamic network organizations · Build a framework of management guidelines for the set-up, coordination and management of these types of organizations · Prepare guidelines on regulation and policy with a view to facilitating the growth of dynamic organizational forms · Disseminate results at a broader European level
