This Concerted Action (CA) project is being conducted under the sponsorship of the European Commission, Directorate General XI, and it is coordinated by GRS (and involves the following partners: UK Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (HSK), Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate (SKI), Hungarian Electric Power Research Institute (VEIKI), Spanish Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN), French Institute de Radioprotection et de Surete Nucleaire (IRSN), Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Slovakia (UJD), ERI Consulting & Co., SwedPower AB, Swiss Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke (NOK)). The project elements include:

1. Review the state-of-the art and existing approaches to collection and reporting of safety Performance Indicators (PIs).

2. Identification of strengths and deficiencies of the existing practices in various countries.

3. Identification of best practices relative to the needs of the regulators and the utility organizations.

4. Formulatation the relationship between safety inspection and performance monitoring, as manifested by the information obtained from PIs.

5. Identification of future research needs as related to incorporation of the risk impact of organizational aspects on nuclear plant safety performance.

6. Development of a list of candidate methods and recommendations for future development and implementation guidelines.
