OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the project is to actively promote the uptake of microsystem technologies by European industry and to make the accessibility to microsystems effective and rapid for industry.
For that purpose, three main activities were undertaken:
a) Dissemination and awareness raising (publications, exhibitions, workshops, visits, etc)
b) Creation of a Manufacturing Cluster, consisting of a manufacturing unit and a network of design houses with close links to the manufacturing unit, reducing development costs and time to market as well as guaranteeing production.
c) Development of application specific standard microsystems (ASSM) so that industries can profit from existing know-how at reduced costs and risks, as well as shorter time to market.

Services Provided by the Cluster
a) From the design houses:
IMT offer design and simulation of diffractive and refractive micro-optical elements as well as small-scale production for the realisation of demonstrators. They are particularly focussed on devices requiring large data handling and complex functionalities.
Kymata offer design of microfluidic devices, mechanical microsystems and integrated optical chips. The latter devices are also offered as ASSM.
LETI offer design of microfluidics and physical sensors like pressure sensors, IR detectors, etc, as well as development of processes in various technologies.
IRST are active in information technology, artificial intelligence, microsystems and micromechanics, and offer design and development of radiation detectors.
IMEGO provide consultancy, services, and prototypes for industry and research in the field of microsystems, biosensors, quantum, and microwave components.
Coventor offer software for MEMS devices and system design in the field of microfluidics, biotechnology and optical telecommunications.
b) From Colibrys, the manufacturing unit:
· Flexible waferfab foundry processes plus test and assembly, packaging and reliability testing for medium-scale production
· Manufacturing service for diffractive and refractive optical elements
· Accelerometers and radiation detectors as ASSM.
