Abstract
(English)
The DIANA project addresses the area of IP and ATM integration. It explored the common drivers that are forging the evolution of IP and ATM technologies. The demand for increased network capacity. The need to deliver more sophisticated Quality of Service than simply best-effort service in order to support multiple heterogeneous applications across a single integrated network architecture. The need for efficient resource usage for e.g support for multicast functionality. Specifically the project specified and developed a generic network infrastructure consisting of a native ATM model domain and an IP Integrated Services model domain. Thus providing an infrastructure to demonstrate and test an enhanced Qos across IP and ATM domain boundaries. Swisscoms motivation for participation in the project was to contribute to the fiercely debated topic of IP and ATM integration and therefore to provide support to internal departments regarding trends and issues in IP and ATM integration.

Swisscoms role in the project was that of service provider and contributed to the project in the following domains:
- Input to overall project specification IP and ATM Technology Integration to support Quality of Service in Heterogeneous Networks.
- Investigation of IP Quality of Service testing techniques in particular the evaluation of an IP Qos Test Infrastructure (Chariot from Ganymeade).
