Abstract
(English)
The proposed research aims to investigate a novel integrated louvre solar collector system intended for use in buildings, to provide solar shading, control over internal daylight levels and thermal energy. Solar thermal energy could be used to drive a wide range of building services systems e.g., space heating, water heating, solar-driven electricity generation and refrigeration. The collectors would utilise heat pipe technology, which in addition to offering high collector efficiency, will also provide flexibility to collect heat over a range of temperatures to suit the desired building services application. Louvres currently find wide uptake where they provide protection for glazed spaces within buildings during the cooling season. Applications include vertical glazed facades, atria roofs, conservatories etc. Solar louvre collectors offer a cost-effective and aesthetically acceptable means for integrating renewables into buildings.
