Abstract
(Englisch)
The general problem addressed by the project is the eco- (in) efficiency of European industry regarding potentially hazardous chemicals. The proposed project will provide better methods and information tools needed for decision-making regarding these chemicals, enhancing the capability of industry to select more environmentally benign compounds. The basis on which new and extended LCIA method s and an expert web-based information system will be developed are
a) comparisons between life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) methods for characterisation of chemicals' potential effects and (environmental) risk assessment (E)RA methods. And
b) comparisons between various current LCIA methods.

The project is structured in four stages starting with
1) a problem definition stage where a wide group of stakeholders together with industry/authority and research partners provide input for
2) the industry/authority case study based R&D work, which results will be lesled in
3) the five case studies.
The results will then be 4) presented in the dissemination/implementation stage. The feasibility of including LCA as a tool in chemical regulation will also be studied.
