Abstract
(English)
The objectives of the NGN LAB project are:
· To establish a platform for the development of advanced internet technologies, by provisioning required system infrastructure and interactive applications, to realise next generation network related experiments. A close relationship with GEANT and Eurescom projects will be established to test new network configurations, protocols, applications, seeking standards conformity to guarantee interoperability and interworking among multiple projects.
· To develop new internet capabilities such as IPv6 through provisioning of IPv4-IPv6 interworking either by means of tunneling or by deploying dual stack routers; also supporting QoS to provision premium IP services and applications.
· To support IST projects to test the new technologies such as IP telephony, IP over xDSL, IP over ATM, IP over WDM etc…
· To liaise with other national and international testbeds and Forums, so as to promote the next generation network infrastructure for provisioning end-to-end services.
Objectives of MCLab GmbH for the 1st year:
· To represent the project actively in whatever relevant concertation mechanisms may be established and liaise with other projects with which a close association can be beneficial
· To define the network features that are necessary and optional for the testbed to support the user projects.
· To define the enhancements needed for the testbed, connectivity, protocols support and type of technologies to be supported in short and longer term considering the user projects as well as technical and market trends
· To define the type of applications and services to be deployed for interoperability tests
· To introduce IPv4 and IPv6 Networks and demonstrate interworking and interoperability between the two IP worlds. Incorporating latest features defined by fora (including 6Bone) and standards to provision state of the art interworking and interoperability testing platform for user projects.
· To incorporate the latest features of DiffServ defined by Fora and Standards to provision state-of-the-art interworking and interoperability testing platform for user projects.
· To establish good links with other testbeds, user projects, fora and standards groups, as well as interop events.
· To generate an IST consensus towards contributing to standards and harmonisation of work in different groups.
Achievements of MCLab GmbH for the 1st year:
· Description of the existing network for deliverable D1-A: 'Potential links with the IST user projects (living document, updated every 6 months).
· Participation in plenary and progress meetings.
· Signing of the contract between MCLab and SWITCH for the broadband connection (dark fibre to the SWICH PoP at the University of Basel),
· Installation of the dark fibre from the MCLab to the SWITCH PoP
· Installation of the (SWITCH-provided) router at the University of Basel
· Installation of the DiffServ testbed (from NEC) in the MCLab.
· Installation of the connection to the SWITCH network.
· Native IPv6 connection between the MCLab and EuroDemo made operational.
· Installation of the Ipvt scenario from Telscom in Basel
· Contribution to Deliverable D2: 'The network and service provision: the available infrastructure'.
· The review (Brussels, 17th December) was attended by one person, and the live demonstrations from Basel were supported by one additional person.
· Several applicaton demonstrations were installed, tested and supported between Brussels and Basel for the Review.
· Contributions to the Review Report, detailing the architecture of the MCLab environment, and its exernal connectivity.
· Contributions made to deliverable D1-B: ' Liaison with the IST user projects' and D3: Network enhancements for IPv4/v6 and QoS testing: analysis and recommendations'.
