Abstract
(English)
To make & evaluate new types of magnetic nanoparticle of special shape & precise size with tailored surface chemistry & topography for biomedical purposes, especially the precise delivery of drugs by magnetic nanoparticles to the exact target tissue by application of external magnetic fields. This approach should reduce drug dosage, eliminate side effects & obtain faster action. The particles can also be used for histology, cell separation & blood purification. These particles are needed as those used until now show inadequate magnetic properties, biocompatibility & surface chemistry. The novelty is to remedy these defects by making super paramagnetic nanoparticles of various shape, appropriately functionalized, in one step in a continuous Segmented Flow Tubular Reactor. The project will deal with all aspects from particle production & surface functionalisation to biological & clinical tests & will end with commercialisation.
