Die ESA startet im Jahre 2001 den Satelliten INTEGRAL (International Gamma Ray Astrophysics Laboratory). Das ISDC wird das Rechnungszentrum sein, welches die vom Satelliten gelieferten Daten verarbeitet und diese den Benutzern weltweit zur Verfügung stellt. Das ISDC steht in Verbindung mit dem "Centre de compétences en astronomie" der Universität Genf.

ESA will launch in 2001 the satellite INTEGRAL (International Gamma Ray Astrophysics Laboratory). ISDC is the operations centre on ground for the treatment and conditioning of data provided by INTEGRAL. ISDC is part of the Geneva astronomical institute.

ISDC sera la centre de calcul qui traitera les données produites par INTEGRAL et assurera la distribution aux utilisateurs du monde entier. Subsidies allocated by the Swiss Federal Government (core contribution) will allow to establish the institute which will condition data provided by the research satellite INTEGRAL for the world wide research community.

Allocation de subsides de la Confédération pour la constitution d'un institut de recherche qui aura la tâche de mettre à disposition des données produites par le satellite de recherche INTEGRAL pour la communauté scientifique mondiale.

Transfer and application (English)

In order to achieve its goals, the ISDC is developping a complete suite of data analysis programs. There will be one real time scan through the data and one off-line consolidated analysis.
These developments started in 1995 and will extend throughout the life of the project. A first version will be available in 2000, while a more complete version will be available at the time of launch.
The operations will then start as the data analysis are refined. This phase will start at the satellite launch. During the operations, the ISDC will process some 90 kbits of data per second every second of the year. When all the products generated by the ISDC system are included this will make an archive of few Tera bytes per year.
The ISDC scientists are also active in astronomical research. The themes that are atudied deal with subjects for which the INTEGRAL data will allow scientists to make very important progress. The research themes are centered around very compact objects (neutron stars, black holes in our Galaxy, Active Galactic Nuclei and Quasars), and around the synthesis of elements in the Universe.
