Abstract
(Englisch)
The main objective of the TERA project was to conduct techno-economic evaluations of different telecommunication architectures and technologies, developed within selected ACTS field trials, IST and other projects.
The Swisscom contributions to the project include Techno-economic evaluation and support (WP1), dissemination of results (WP2) through conference papers and presentations as well as market inputs and market modelling (WP3).
The techno-economic evaluations of the TERA project were based four business cases, in which Swisscom has been actively involved in 'Next generation mobile networks and services' (BC1), 'Broadcast convergence including internet case study' (BC3), and provides inputs to 'Fibre access evolution' (BC2) in term market overview, modelling and coordination of information exchange with the ACTS ITUnet (AC309) project.
The main result achieved by Swisscom within this project is definitively the model creation, revision and the sensitivity analysis of the 'Next generation mobile networks and services' business case. This specific activity culminated with a major presentation given by Swisscom at the international conference 'Networks2000' held in Toronto in September 2000.
Some of the supporting activities for this project have been:
WP1 - Techno-economic evaluation and support:
· Assistance and collaboration with the AC309 ITUnet project: Architecture and cost information exchange (BC2) as well as techno-economic calculations and support.
· Participation and contributions in the UMTS business case (input for the definition of the business case, create and developed the evolutionary path options for the mobile services, architecture, cost database, dimensioning rules, implementation, first calculation/results, write part of the deliverable)
· Implemented and perform the sensitivity analysis of the UMTS business case.
· Participation and contributions to the Broadcast Convergence business case (definition, broadcast evolution, cost database, architecture, tariffs and demand definitions, implementation, first calculation/results, input for the deliverable).
· Created the competition model for the Fibre access evolution.
· Developed and proposed a new general maintenance cost modelling as well as dedicated OA costs modelling for the business cases.
· Cost database revision (provided cost and performance to the TERA tool cost database and to the business cases)
.· Provided information from the EURESCOM P614 project.
WP3 - Market and risk modelling:
· Broadband and mobile tariffs market watch. Create a new tariff model based on the service bandwidth.
WP2 - Swisscom papers and conference presentations as contribution to result dissemination:
· L. Budry & al., 'The Economics of migration to 3rd Generation Mobile Systems: What really counts', Networks2000, Toronto, Canada, 10-15 September 2000.
· L. Budry & al., 'The economics of broadband service introduction: Area specific investments for broadband upgrade', TRIBAN workshop, Bern, 17-19 November 1998.
