The objective of the TECAPSY project was to prepare the market introduction of innovative services for the mobility of people to the European public by 1) providing an intelligent system to form carpools (minimising solo-driving in cars); 2) offering an information parking solution ('i-parking') which will ideally be used in conjunction with the carpooling solution and 3) a digital mobility centre (virtual portal for transport information). The four sites involved in this project phase (the cities of Hanover, Grenoble, Gloucester and the University of Alicante) concentrated mostly on carpooling. - As for Switzerland, extensive studies on a market introduction were carried out in parallel.
Tecapsy was awarded by the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) and the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) at the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.

Results: General
The following issues affecting the implementation of the Tecapsy services were studied by the partners and formed into separate modules that serve for market introductions:
· legal considerations · financial aspects
· market analysis; social benefits · investment requirement
· communication strategy
The market validation phase clearly showed that the Tecapsy services must become an integral part of the official transport strategies of a city or region.
For deployment it is imperative that the relevant local authorities get involved.
The procedures defined for the Alicante field trial in particular will serve as guidelines for other sites for the implementation of the services, be it for industrial zones, universities, cities, agglomerations or rural regions.
Mostly for political reasons, it became clear that funds to introduce a strong carpooling service are still very hard to obtain. On the other hand, it became evident that with sound promotional campaigns and an incentive policy which should include parking policies, organised carpooling has the potential to help solve a number of traffic-related problems, at little cost.

For Switzerland:
Guidelines and tools set up within Tecapsy are fully applicable for cities and rural regions in Switzerland and particularly with regard to the traffic challenges in the agglomerations, this will have to be brought to the full attention of the Swiss authorities.
