Abstract
(Englisch)
Corrosion inhibitors allow for low cost and soft repair interventions for reducing or stopping rebar corrosion of reinforced concrete structures. While corrosion inhibition of MFP (Sodium Monofluorophosphate) has been demonstrated in the laboratory, its effectiveness still needs to be verified unequivocally in the case of in-situ application on structures. Several corrosion rate measuring devices (based on a novel in-situ method) have been mounted in September 1997 on precast panels of a building showing rebar corrosion after MFP corrosion inhibitor treatment. The principle of the corrosion rate measurement uses the potential difference between neighboring zones ; a piece of rebar is electrically isolated from the rest of the rebars, thus a galvanic element is created and the electrical resistivity is determined as a function of humidity and temperature of the cover concrete. The measurements since 1997 show that the installed measuring devices work properly. The corrosion rate readings indicate that the applied corrosion inhibitor significantly reduced corrosion current in the rebars.
