Abstract
(Englisch)
One of the key objects of the EU network concerned with quality and trust in CFD is to establish the state-of-the-art in industrial applications of computational fluid dynamics. Within this initiative, a large number of application challenges are being studied by different partners across Europe. Generic flow cases are tackled as well as relevant industrial problems.
The application challenge addressed by ALSTOM Power (Switzerland) Ltd. is a 4-stage high-speed axial-flow compressor. Computations were made using a specialised flow solver developed in house for multi-stage turbomachinery problems. Benchmark data for direct comparison were provided by the University of Hannover (Institut für Strömungsmaschinen, Prof. Dr.-Ing. J. Seume).
During the second year of the project, the work has been concerned primarily with finalising the computations and undertaking detailed comparisons with the measurements provided by the University of Hannover. The result have been summarised in a report that has undergone a review process. The final application challenge including the report and the data files (from numerical simulation and experiment) have been submitted to the data base at Surrey University (UK).

The QNET-CFD meeting held May 23-24, 2002 in Lucerne, Switzerland was attended by a representative of ALSTOM Power (Switzerland) Ltd., who presented results of the application challenge.
