The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) aims to develop healthcare equity indicators that shed light on equity-related issues in the healthcare system in Switzerland. In a first step, the FOPH suggests demonstrating a sense of urgency by commissioning research that documents healthcare equity issues in Switzerland. Based on an internationally acknowledged analytical approach (Cookson, et al., 2018), a list of equity indicators were linked to variables related to social and economic characteristics of regions, allowing the identification of regional disparities in healthcare equity in Switzerland. This research helps raise awareness and assist policy makers as well as healthcare professionals to identify areas of concern and make informed decisions towards improving healthcare equity in Switzerland.
